Spiritual Awareness: Open Mind, Heart and Life!

“The greatest potential we have for opening our hearts lies in the opening of our minds.”
― Vironika Tugaleva
I am a pretty open-minded and open-hearted person. But I was not always this way. I grew up in a somewhat reserved atmosphere. However as I got older and discovered an immense fascination with people I became more open because I wanted to really get to know others. I became more inviting of people into my crazy little world. I hold very little of myself back. I have learned much about others and myself and grew in many ways. Being an open person, sharing my life and feelings with others has greatly enriched my life.

Being open-minded exposed me to different types of people, from various cultures, backgrounds and attitudes. I view it as a challenge and I don’t shy away from anyone and that has led to some pretty interesting and hilarious experiences! I see everyone as my brother and sister, the more open-minded that I am.

Having an open mind has led to the development of an o…

Paying Attention To Your Attention!

The other day a friend and I were discussing our individual goals for the next year. This year has basically been a test run for me; a chance for me to work through what I believe is my purpose in life. I am learning in leaps and bounds about things I have never dealt with before. I am very excited about the future.
Since February of this year, I really put a lot of effort into this work and I have seen some nice results. I am a firm believer that energy flows where focus goes and the results I see are definitely based on that energy. One of my driving factors is time. I took a huge diversion in my life that cost me some twenty plus years. Therefore, I am hitting the ground running, to get as much done in my life, before I lay down in sweet peace.

One of the things that I find myself doing is either managing or eliminating any unnecessary distractions and filling that time with things that are related to my goals. I wonder how many times have we even thought or asked ourselves what a…

The Road To Inner Peace.

“The quickest way to experiencing the peace inside, is to learn to recognize when I am not at peace.”
― Jim McDonald
Near the top of the ladder of awareness is this beautiful place called inner peace.  I have had moments of this emotion only find myself slipping in and out of it from time to time. I have spiritual goals, so being unable to maintain this place was frustrating to me. I am happy, joyful and loving and I feel those emotions on a consistent basis, so what was causing me to have these moments of unrest?

Well it took a week of insane adversity and a huge emotional release to realize that I needed to face reality about a few things in my life. I had to accept some things that I had been avoiding and wrestling with to work my way back to peace and hopefully finally stay there.

One situation forced me to completely release an area in my life that frankly I have naturally been attached to from birth. My family and I are on different vibrational levels at this juncture in my li…

Piecing Together Your Story!

“You have left a trail of breadcrumb clues which will lead you to the place where your purpose and passion have already met and are simply waiting for you to find them.”
― Jacob Nordby
Many of us may have been living in a certain sense of awareness from childhood. We may not have understood why we paid attention to so many details, but once we get older and fortunately self-actualize, we realize we have been seeing the story all along.
If you have been paying attention to the details in your life and you are at a point of consciousness, you can actually see your life as story. Almost every major event that at the time may have seemed coincidental was actually a stepping stone leading you somewhere. You arrive at a point where you can look back and see all the pieces but may not grasp how they all fit together. You will see the patterns and full circle moments and just look at them and wonder what they all mean.

The process of awakening is progressive, and thank goodness, because if a…

Kill Them With Kindness and Love!

Reality bites! You can be the most positive person in the world, with the biggest heart, but undoubtedly you will encounter people who will treat you in unkind and loving ways. What even makes it worse is when they do this actually thinking it is helping you and that it’s the right thing to do.
When I am faced with these types of people who intentionally turn their love on and off, I am momentarily knocked off my axis. I have to be very careful when dealing with such ones, because if I let it get to me I will sink into anger or despair. So I allow myself to feel the pain of unloving behavior for a second and then take specific steps to work my way back into a more positive place.

Below are some of the actions I take to get there. Maybe these will help you when someone behaves in a way that prevents love from flowing freely.

Forgive, forgive, forgive.

Some people are able to turn their love on or off. Maybe you don’t agree with them, or you are not doing things their way, they may f…

Rebuilding A Life!

When my world turned upside down three years ago, I felt like I was at Ground Zero. I left my marriage, a religious background and a job, all with much tenure.

It was daunting being alone in that new space. I lost many friends and family, basically a whole identity. So what was I supposed to do now?

Well I realized I had an opportunity to really define myself. Within that new quiet space, I pondered who I was and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I took the time to enjoy that solitude. Here are some of the things that I did that helped me grow and eventually recreate a new life, brimming with possibilities:

1.Developed a positive attitude.
I woke up every day excited that I did not have those old negative attachments. I was free. I had a new job and met new people. I was curious about time and what I could do with it. I refused to bemoan the losses and looked at the brighter side of things. I focused on the positives and not the negatives. If you focus on the negatives that…

Inherited Religiosity!

One of the first things I did when I scrapped my religious beliefs, was to revert back to a beginner's mind and imagine being a baby without any belief system. I came to the obvious conclusion that if it were not for what I grew up learning and the social construct of my family, I would have believed differently. Most people do not stop far a minute to ponder this.

Below is an article from Countercurrents that highlights this exact fact! This will make you really think!

Inherited Religiosity: What It Means For How Most ‘Believers’ Believe. By Yoginder Sikand
Throughout the world, the overwhelming majority of people who believe in, or otherwise feel emotionally linked to, a particular religion are those who have been born into it. This fact has crucial implications for how most ‘believers’ come to develop notions of what they regard as ‘true’ and, conversely, ‘false’, religion.
For almost all people, their religious faith is something they inherit from their imme…

Me, Bruno and a Joke Gone Very Bad!

Recently a well-known rapper made a slur on social media. Allegedly, he was incited by comments left on his page and responded in an inappropriate way that incited a backlash. He immediately removed the post. It’s a lesson on how the things we post on social media can become viral and things can go downhill and fast.

I experienced something similar when I posted the opening line to a joke by Sasha Baron Cohen’s alter-ego Bruno on my personal social media page. The line highlighted an obnoxious viewpoint of a real life person Bruno was interviewing. My friends and I are huge Bruno fans and instantly knew that from that first line this unsuspecting man was being set up for his narrow mindset to be exposed. I actually followed up my post with the link to the YouTube video that I referenced.

So when I posted the line and referenced the video, I never thought that it would be misunderstood. It was not until a few days later that a friend told me he thought the post was offensive. I knew…

Spiritual Awakening: Kundalini Awakening (Video)

I have spoken about Kundalini awakening in previous posts before. The awakening of this energetic center located in the base of the spine is a symptom of the spiritual awakening process and is very important. I wanted to expand on this fascinating phenomenon and I discuss it on the vBlog on Youtube. Enjoy!

This One Moment!

Once I grasped the concept that we are spiritual beings having a human experience it changed my perspective on how I faced challenges in my life. I have gotten to a point in my life where I realized that in this one lifetime, this one moment, I want to get it right. Having this perspective has also made me very fearless.

One of my friends and I would share our life stories with each other. But how we went about addressing our issues and facing our challenges were remarkably different. Where I understood that every challenge was best met head on, she avoided facing hers or doing anything that would help her make the breakthrough she was seeking.
I am not going to lie to you, facing your fears is a daunting task, especially when in the process of doing so you experience some degree of pain. But when I look at my choices the only option I really see is to stare down the trials. Go all the way into the burn and be purified.
Most people when faced with something challenging or painful hav…

You Are Under Arrest Energy Stealers!

“You just can't live that negative way. You know what I mean. Make way for the positive day. Cause it's a new day...”  ― Bob Marley There is an abundance of energy available on this planet for everyone. So why do we insist on behavior that takes energy away from others? We can stop the madness! Check out the latest on vBlog on Youtube!

Universal Solitude!

“The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude.”  ― Aldous Huxley
When the Universe has an important memo to pass along to you it will clear your schedule and set up a meeting with you. It will force you into situations where you will be alone, or you’ll suddenly develop a desire to disappear and go “off the grid”. I like to call these occurrences Universal Solitude.
Last weekend was my girlfriend Claire’s birthday. She lives in San Francisco. I had made plans to fly out with friends to see her, only to discover that smack dab in the middle of my plans was a prior engagement I could not cancel. Well the engagement fell through and so at the last minute I decided to try and fly out to the west coast to see her. As I was putting together the travel plans I realized that I was setting myself up for a logistics nightmare. I noticed an ever increasing sense that I was not supposed to go, so I let it go.
So now I am home for the weekend and …

Synchronicity: The Universal Sign Post.

“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

The first time I heard the word synchronicity was in the song by The Police. Back then I had no idea what it meant, but I’ve always loved that song. Synchronicity is a term closely associated with coincidence. Coincidences are odd things that happen in our lives we can’t explain but synchronicity is a completely different thing. Synchronicity is more of an experience.
“The term synchronicity is coined by Carl Jung to express a concept that belongs to him. It is about acausal connection of two or more psycho-physic phenomena.” To put it more simply synchronicities usually are specific patterns that repeat in time. They usually come in threes. These patterns will be evidenced in people, places or situations that come into your life. I have come to believe after having experienced them; they are directly linked to a soul desire or purpos…

A Message To The Young Travelers!

“Our lives were just beginning, our favorite moment was right now, our favorite songs were unwritten.”― Rob Sheffield
This morning I woke up to the news that Simone Battle, of the singing group G.R.L. was found dead yesterday of an apparent suicide. The talented twenty-five year old was best known as a finalist on The X Factor. She was young, talented and beautiful and no doubt was headed for great things. Somewhere in this possibility, she lost sight of that hope. I repeat she was only twenty-five!

I had planned to do some writing today, but instead after reading this bit of news, decided to take a reprieve from social media, turn off all my devices. I got dressed and headed out to the park where I knew I could have a moment to myself.
I cried for this young woman and for all those nameless unknown faces who at such a young age choose to take their lives into their own hands. I feel their pain, because I know what it is like to be so young and to feel like the only option is to end …

Did I See God? Only God Knows!

During the early stages of my spiritual awakening, I did not hesitate to embrace all aspects of it. I read voraciously and took whatever practical steps I needed to take in order to acclimate to this new way of thinking and living. I understood quite a few things; as a matter of fact many things I started to learn felt very right to my soul. It was as if I had known these things deep down, but just needed confirmation.

As I have said before, learning to make meditation a practice has really helped me to get some clarity about things in my life. I also has opened up my consciousness and allowed me to experience some pretty interesting things.
Although I was grasping a lot of information, I still had this skeptical side, an almost cheeky attitude towards some aspects of my experience. I would ask questions prior and during meditation, just to see whether or not I would really get a response.
One day I decided to really test if I was actually connecting to anything out there and I said:…

I Want To See You Be Brave!

I was browsing through a forum recently and came across a thread about spiritual awakening where people were sharing their experiences. I noticed a trend where many commenting were grateful that they woke up, however on the other hand they were frustrated at the loneliness they were feeling with their new understanding. It took every ounce of strength for me not to run amok in the discussion board and scream: Get out of the house!
I concur with a lot of what was said, that initially the first part of awakening is solitary, mainly because your vibration is adjusting to a new level. You are shifting away from your old self to a new one and your resonance changes with those whom you once associated with. I experienced that, however I learned to embrace it. I took myself out. I basically dated Me! Armed with a favorite book, my iPad and a journal, I would venture out to my favorite watering hole and spend time with myself. I read, I wrote, I observed people and eavesdropped on their conv…

Feel The Vibration! Now Raise Them!

I am going to share something that I believed really helped me during the awakening process and possibly made things shift into warp speed for me. I learned to raise my vibration.
When I started to read about the positive effects of raising the energy level at which my body was vibrating, I diligently went about doing just that. Here are some of the ways I went about raising my vibes:
The biggest boost I got was from exercise. Enjoy all those yummy endorphins. I had always worked out for many years. But one day I went to the gym, walked around, was suddenly repulsed by the environment and went home. Fortunately I had taken up yoga. So I would alternate between a local studio and yoga practice at home. I found it more peaceful than being in a gym and yoga really opened me up. I practice Rodney Yee’s Power Yoga. I want to scream at the TV and I literally want to die before I get to the floor exercises because that’s how intense it is. Regardless of what type of exercise moves…
