Spiritual Awareness- Musings About Forgiveness!

“An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does the truth become error because nobody will see it.― Mahatma Gandhi

As human beings we see the possibility of hurting each other as real. How can we not? This is all we know. It’s ingrained in us to expect pain. When someone hurts us we are placed in a position to forgive. We may take a while to do so, even wrestle with the forgiveness before extending it.

I have learned to forgive faster as I open myself up to more spiritual guidance. But as I was studying A Course In Miracles I was further exposed to a thought that truly blew my mind.

We are so far removed from the Source that we sometimes don’t realize that a hurt is a construct of the mind that we buy into. First we have to actually perceive that we are hurt by someone to forgive them. But what if we started to view the actions of another person as an extent of our collective inability to first and automatically act from love? Now this is a controversial thought. Because there have been some horrendous things that people have done to each other, and I am sure I don’t have to make a list.

But what if we just ponder on the thought that we are so far removed (in differing degrees) that for some they are just behaving on their level of awareness. And whose fault is it for the unawareness? Awareness does not seem to be automatic for many people. It’s a process that starts by some spark. So if you are less aware you are more prone to insensitivity, hence taking an action against others that they perceive as hurt.

If you are aware, then you can see the bigger picture. You may be able to see it’s not hurt, but the level of awareness that the person is operating on. So the hurt is not really there.

“What has no effect does not exist, and to the Spirit the effects of error are non-existent. By steadily and consistently cancelling out all of its affects, everywhere and in all respects, God teaches that the ego does not exist and proves it.”
“Forgiveness through the Spirit lies simply in looking beyond the error from the beginning and thus keeping it (the error) unreal for you.” –ACIM

We are not in our fully evolved spirit so this may hard to see.  However, the idea could change our perspective when we are dealing with people and the way they behave.

Just a thought. I may probably get into some trouble with this post. But hopefully it will spawn some healthy and respectful debate.
